What Type of House is This? Cincinnati Home Styles

July 15, 2008

Wondering what style your house is?  Well this is the place to find out.  Every Tuesday I am going to post a new housing style in Cincinnati, until I run out :)

Today’s style  is the “American Four Square”. Very common in Hyde Park and Mt Lookout, the four square is also called the praire box.  They were built from the 1890s- 1930s.  Four Squares are generally 2.5 stories tall, with a four room plan, two on either side of a central staircase.  The also have a large central dormer on the top floor and a large front porch.
